Frequently Asked Questions to help you decide

What’s a white guy doing offering Shamanic practices?

Indigenous traditions are at the core of the human existence. Shamanism and its practices are cross-cultural and preceded any colonial and modern practices. Practicing Shamanism requires connecting with one’s elders’ tradition, not necessarily appropriating that of others. A honest shamanic practitioner connects with their tradition seeking guidance for evolution to the spirits that support them. I come from a part of the world where there is a Shamanic tradition and I currently live in another country where it is traditional and active.

Will I be required to take drugs?

Absolutely not. In none of our sessions you will be asked to make use of medicinal plants. In fact, most Shamanic traditions do not make use of altering substances in their practices. We might burn some white sage and incense.

Where does this work take place?

The initial consultation usually happens at the client’s home, if possible. The location of following shamanic work can change, according to the client’s needs, the benefit of different spiritual locations, and the type of work needed.

Is this psychotherapy?

No, it’s not, even though the benefits from it might be therapeutic. This work is a mix of energy healing, compassionate listening and traditional shamanic work. I am facilitating the passing of a message that comes through me to you, so that you can make it yours. We won’t work with your mind, but with your soul and energetic body.

This sounds crazy

It can. I have a PhD and worked in academia for a long time. A part of my is very rational and scientific. I had to suspend my voices of judgment and cynicism to prepare for and fully welcome this work. All I can say is, if you feel somehow pulled towards it, you should try getting in touch with me or other Shamans. It might surprise you and open up other ways to seeing yourself and the world.

How often do you see a client?

There is no rule written in stone. After a session, usually it’s best for clients to wait three to six months before they come back (unless we are doing a shamanic counselling series, for which is best to come back every week). Others only need this once. Clients might decide to visit more frequently for different reasons (for instance, they might come for a healing and two weeks after to plan their wedding ceremony), but that’s entirely up to them.

If yours is a gift, shouldn't you be doing this for free?

Shamans in the past lived and worked in their tightly knit community. They offered their service because others helped them sustain their mundane activities when they couldn’t. Today, with the disintegration of the human collective social fabric, the way to recognise and reward our mutual services is through payment. My shamanic work helps pay the bills; if I weren’t changing, I couldn’t offer this service. The sacred ceremonies are offered for free (cost only covers the materials used in the ceremony).

How much does this cost?

The price of a standard healing session is 90 GBP, but I implement a sliding scale for those who can’t afford the full price. Shamanic counselling are six sessions payable as either 90 GBP each or 500 GBP as a package. Ceremonies have prices that vary and depend on the type of ceremony.

What if I am scared to do this?

This could mean that the possibility of shamanic work is touching something deep inside you, something unknown and alien from your everyday life.  This could mean that it is a  best sign that you should give it a go. The process is gradual, and you decide how to use what you receive at each step, beginning with a free phone call, if you are interested or curious.
